The Internet is a tool without which most of us cannot imagine working or doing our daily tasks. Shopping, booking doctor’s appointments, dealing with official matters, booking airline tickets \u2013 we can do all of this online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what about looking for a job?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I remember when I entered the job market, jobs were mainly sought in the press, at employment offices or on job ad websites, of which there were literally only a few. And that was not 100 years ago<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, most job offers can be found online. More importantly, recruiters themselves search for candidates on the internet. So if you’re looking for a job, your presence on social media can be very helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember, if you have a LinkedIn profile, your employer will probably look at it. It is a service strongly focused on professional and business contacts. Did you know that if you have accounts on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, recruiters may also look there? What’s more, if you use your real name on these sites, rather than a pseudonym, you can benefit even more! Show yourself to employers, let them know who you are, what your interests are, what events you attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So how can you harness the power of social media and help your recruitment?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Firstly, if you want to showcase yourself and build your brand online, be visible on social media.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On social networking sites (such as LinkedIn, but also Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), you can build a network of contacts, present your achievements and career path, and receive recommendations from other people you have worked with. Make sure you have a complete and accurate LinkedIn profile. Did you know that nearly 96% of recruiters actively search for job candidates through this portal? Let employers see that what you have included in your CV is consistent with what can be found about you online. Let them get to know you as an interesting person, i.e. an interesting job candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondly \u2013 join various industry groups.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thematic groups on social media are a huge treasure trove of knowledge and contacts. Not only can you find out about the latest news in a given industry and sign up for various meetings taking place in your area, but you can also meet people who are looking for help, support, and even job candidates. Make contacts, answer questions that arise there, start conversations \u2013 remember to be professional and friendly. Do not mock, but offer advice and share your knowledge. Show that you are an expert in your field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to retrain, try to get as much as you can out of such industry spaces on the Internet. Ask about opportunities to gain experience, programmes or further training courses. Remember not to be pushy and not to impose your presence on everyone. Thank people if they have helped you or shared valuable advice with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An example of such a group is #MamoPracujwIT (Mums Work in IT) \u2013 there, women who are just thinking about retraining and working in the IT industry, as well as those who are already experts, will find something for themselves. What’s more, they are a source of inspiration for each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take advantage of offline meetings Members of many groups organise thematic or networking meetings in different cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thirdly \u2013 follow the profiles and websites of companies that are interesting employers for you.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

More and more often, companies make sure that their social media profiles and career tabs are clear and professional. This is a space where you can learn a lot about the organisational culture, values and rules of the company. In addition, some job offers are only published there. It is worth checking these places regularly so that you don’t miss anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that company profiles on social media make it easier to contact recruiters and ask for details about a particular job advertisement? This is often a faster way than writing emails to the company’s general contact email address. You may also find that a company organises consultations or preliminary recruitment via Messenger \u2013 this is a great option to find out details about a specific position without leaving your home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do not be afraid to be on social media. It can be your ally in your job search. Use it fully and wisely. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
