Doubts arise. Is this a good idea? Isn&#8217;t it too early? And excuses. Your boss is in a bad mood today. It&#8217;s too late today. We have a lot of projects this week. However, you remain determined and tell yourself: I can do it! It is only 5.8%<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does this mean for you? It means that you can choose from job offers, and employers will bend over backwards to get a good employee. If the fear of losing your job (although completely unrealistic) has prevented you from asking for a raise, now you should not worry about it even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But are you sure you want to change jobs? You feel comfortable in your current job, you know what you&#8217;re doing, you have interesting colleagues&#8230; But it would be nice to have more money in your account, right? Hmm&#8230; Always. Know that now is the best time on the job market to talk about a pay rise!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know you deserve it \u2013 all you have to do is convince your employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But how? Of course, with a plan and hard data showing how you benefit your employer, i.e. the company!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Below you will find a list of five things that \u2013 I don&#8217;t like this word \u2013 but you absolutely must do to be more appreciated and get a better salary.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. When?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s start by determining <strong>when is the best time for such an important conversation<\/strong>. Ideally, it should coincide with the completion of a difficult project you have been working on, the achievement of some significant success, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also worth remembering <strong>when it is better not to schedule a conversation \u2013 never do it at the beginning of the week.<\/strong> Everyone has a long list of things to do in the coming days, and stress and nervousness levels are higher than on other days of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Let&#8217;s also not plan our conversation for the end of the day<\/strong> \u2013 by then, everyone&#8217;s mind is elsewhere and there is a good chance that you will not be able to present your arguments calmly and objectively because you will have to end the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the last but equally important point is: <strong>do not plan a conversation before lunchtime<\/strong> \u2013 as we all know, a hungry person is an angry person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Where?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An equally important part of the preparation is deciding where the conversation will take place. <strong>It is worth planning it well in advance and reserving a place where you can talk calmly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both you and your manager will feel much more comfortable talking in a place where there are no distractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. What?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When preparing for the conversation, it is worth remembering that your salary is not just your pay. It also includes holiday entitlement, working hours, the option to work from home, additional insurance, a medical package for you and your family, a parking space, various vouchers or, for example, sports club membership cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Writing down the things that may be part of the negotiation will make you more flexible during the conversation and also give your manager more opportunities to make a decision that is favourable to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. How much?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When preparing for the conversation, set your maximum target \u2013 usually around 10% of your current salary, although there are exceptions, of course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, also think about the minimum you would be happy with and the alternatives I mentioned above. Setting a specific goal significantly increases your chances of achieving it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. How?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least, it is important to consider<strong> how to conduct the conversation itself.<\/strong> First of all, it is worth having a positive attitude (after all, it will be a positive event, right?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Your determination and confidence are also important<\/strong> \u2013 after all, you know your competences \u2013 this is where you should cite specific facts and figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How did the project you led affect the company&#8217;s profits, how do your skills translate into better department performance, etc. \u2013 prepare well to present these arguments and write down a list of at least 10 specific actions with specific figures in advance. You won&#8217;t necessarily use all of them, but it&#8217;s always good to have an ace up your sleeve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listen to your supervisor with empathy \u2013 your boss may also have limited room for manoeuvre when it comes to granting pay rises (see point 3 \u2013 what else can be negotiated besides salary).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always be diplomatic \u2013 do not compare yourself to others or point out their incompetence. Be flexible and prepared to compromise, and the conversation will surely end satisfactorily for both you and your interlocutor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After all, that&#8217;s what it&#8217;s all about, isn&#8217;t it? To be appreciated by your manager so that they recognise your importance to the company and the department.
