How do you find your way around and anchor yourself in it? We&#8217;ll take you step-by-step through the process of changing your industry to IT and reveal the secrets of recruitment in this field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where do you start if you want to rebrand?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The need for change and to work in this industry is becoming increasingly apparent. Well okay, but I don&#8217;t know to what role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. To begin with, you need to ask yourself: who am I, and what are my values?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is our compass. Work is a part of our daily functioning. Values at work often align with those in personal life. Let&#8217;s assume that flexibility at work is important to you. When the environment enforces fixed working hours, you won&#8217;t last very long there. It is inconsistent with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Secondly: what are your natural talents and strengths?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What are your ways of doing things that empower you? It&#8217;s worth realising whether you prefer technical or coordinative tasks, for example, or perhaps &#8216;soft&#8217; tasks involving working with people? Then you will know which role is closer to your heart. Diagnose yourself in terms of your strengths and what gives you power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Another important thing is defining your WHY.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Why do I do what I do? What are the motives behind my actions? When do I feel passionate? Which responsibilities don&#8217;t give me joy? Reach back to your childhood, your education, your first jobs. What is your potential, what are you going out into the market with? Do this, and you will achieve mastery. Listen to your heart. Then, you can be of value to the employer. Such a retrospection helps rekindle the fire that fuels you to keep working hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>So, how do you define talents, values? Is there a &#8216;fundamental&#8217; question?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What could you do for hours on end? What puts a smile on your face and you don&#8217;t find teh task difficult to complete? And even if it is difficult, it is still rewarding?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who inspires you? Who has taught you the most significant life lessons that you keep coming back to? This is also an aspect that leads to the question: why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Then, we look into what the market has to offer.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the roles? What can we choose from? What are the specifics of the position, the entry level, what skills are needed? How many candidates apply for the position? Then, we consider which path to take. Now is the moment to <strong>test if our expectations align with reality<\/strong>. Let&#8217;s talk to the people in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The various roles in IT, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>data science,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>software tester,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PM (project manager)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UX designer,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>scrum master,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fault manager &#8211; manages issues and distributes them further to be fixed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cybersecurity &#8211; a very forward-thinking role, there aren&#8217;t many specialists in it, no experience required. Positions are often filled by people with a psychology degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>How do we find out if a role is actually for us?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Facebook groups, you can take a career quiz but this won&#8217;t give you full information,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LinkedIn &#8211; it&#8217;s a good idea to follow people in the industry, network with them, give a comment, like, build your engagement,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to meetups, industry events. Talk to people, listen to their language, learn about the industry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Come up with an action plan.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We can commence the rebranding process fullly when we know what are our values, our strengths, what role is for us, what the market is like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We start to analyse the market and create competence gaps. Think about what you can bring into the company, what employers&#8217; expectations are in terms of the role you are interested in. Then you can consciously fill the competence gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work out a development plan. Start reviewing the areas in which you can acquire knowledge. It is worth using the potential of social e-learning here, and not necessarily locating knowledge in substantial investments, certificates or large-scale training. It is advisable because you need to see if it is right for you. This can give you the first answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>IT for humanists?<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, it&#8217;s possible. It&#8217;s always a process &#8211; you don&#8217;t want to go out of the frying pan and into the fire. As a humanist, you can find yourself in the role of, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>project management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>project support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SCRUM master &#8211; a combination of communication and hard skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>IT is very broad, and there are often non-technical roles. You need people who have worked in diverse roles and have a fresh perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that when you rebrand, you are no longer a &#8216;newbie&#8217;. You have skills that can be scaled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Practice the skills tailored to your chosen role. Have a portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re already part of a company, look for development opportunities there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>How long does the re-branding process take?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When we have an action strategy, it takes about six months. It also depends on the situation, whether we have time, a financial cushion, how much we can devote to our studies. It is worth bearing in mind your health and comfort in life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Hidden labour market<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Job offers aren&#8217;t always available on portals. It is worth talking to people who are rooted in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, there is a business need in the company, only then do people appear. You may come accross a moment when the need still hasn&#8217;t been filled with people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s also worth searching through keywords, not just job titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will give you an idea about roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read job market reports, the International Economic Forum reports and pay attention to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>economic and business perspectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the Skills 2030 report &#8211; skills and growth roles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chatGPT &#8211; ask<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Surrounding yourself with a <strong>great<\/strong> <strong>environment<\/strong>, mentoring, forum questions, and events can also be supportive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What else could you do?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participate in meetings, hackathons,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain an active profile on LI that already tailored to your chosen industry. Think about what you are already doing that could be useful. Create publications, write comments on managers&#8217; profiles &#8211; an active profile. Don&#8217;t ask for a job in the first post, as this can be discouraging. When you keep your profile active, you build trust.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On LI, you can write about the fact that you are rebranding and what field it relates to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present your talents through the lens of specific activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can present your rebranding learning plan as a mind map in a message to managers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Download the <strong>Clubhouse<\/strong> app, where you gain access to audio events, practise English for free and use it for networking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So, are you ready?
